Election 2024: Elvis Afriyie Ankrah alleges EC’s bias towards governing NPP

Former Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of bias towards the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Expressing concerns about the Commission’s partiality in the upcoming elections on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV on Wednesday afternoon, the Former Youth and Sports Minister said the EC has a history of favouring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the current government, justifying his position with its officials who were recently arrested for stealing and tempering with Biometric Voter Registration kits (BVRs).

“We know the EC has a history of doing things to favour the NPP and the government. These things happened in this country and in some cases, BVRs got missing under CCTV and we also discovered a lot of discrepancies recently that they have to correct. They are all deliberate to help the NPP”

According to Mr. Ankrah, credible polls, including one conducted by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), which indicated that the flagbearer of the NDC John Mahama is in poll position to win the 2024 presidential elections.

But he believes that the EC is attempting to manipulate the outcome of the December 7th polls to benefit the NPP.

“There are many credible polls including that of National Investigation Bureau that tip John Mahama to win the elections but the EC is trying to help the NPP” he told Moro Awudu, host of Good Afternoon Ghana.

However, he was quick to add that the NDC will not allow EC to carry through with its plots, citing the NPP’s desperation to steal and manipulate the elections as a motivation.

“We need to raise our alert level to the highest because they are very desperate so the only hope they have is to steal and manipulate the elections,” he said.
