Election 2024: NDC alleges Brigadier Gen. Opoku tasked to rig in Ashanti Region

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused President Akufo-Addo of plotting with Brigadier General Michael Opoku to execute an election-rigging scheme in the Ashanti Region ahead of the 2024 polls

According to NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, Brigadier General Opoku’s recent promotion to General Officer Commanding Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces is part of this alleged strategy.

He told the media at a press conference that Brigadier General Opoku was promised the role of Chief of Defence Staff if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) secures victory in the 2024 election.

The NDC alleges that Brigadier General Opoku Opoku has been mandated to carry out a well-crafted scheme to rig the elections through various clandestine activities, including ballot stuffing, swapping of ballot boxes, and swapping of pink sheets.

Furthermore, Sammy Gyamfi alleged that Brigadier General Opoku has relocated his family to the United Kingdom and has vowed to do all it takes to carry out the election rigging plot.

The NDC also claims to have received intelligence that Brigadier General Opoku is training NPP thugs at the Asatuary military camp, planning to clothe them in military apparel to unleash violence on NDC agents, supporters, and innocent civilians on Election Day.

These allegations come amidst the NPP’s target to secure 85% of votes in the Ashanti Region, a stronghold of the party.

The NDC, on the other hand, is confident that the electorate will vote based on developmental records, citing their own achievements in areas such as electricity, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
