Election 2024: NDC petitions Winneba Chief over EC’s conduct, billboards destructions

The Effutu constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has petitioned the Chief of Effutu, Nenyi Ghartey VII, to intervene in some critical matters related to the upcoming elections.

The party says it has taken this action to ensure the sanctity of the elections as well as create a peaceful atmosphere.

According to the NDC in a petition sent to the chief of Winneba, Nenyi Ghartey VII, the Electoral Commission (EC) has supplied the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with nomination forms of the NDC’s candidate, Dr. James Kofi Annan, which they describe as a breach of trust.

The party also raised concerns about the transfer of some 3,005 votes to the constituency by the EC, describing the act as illegal.

The destruction of several billboards that portrayed images of the NDC Effutu PC and John Mahama is also a matter of concern to the party.

Constituency Secretary Abraham Henry Arthur says the party is demanding explanations from the Electoral Commission about how nomination forms of the party’s candidate filed with the EC got leaked.

The party is also seeking to be updated on an earlier petition sent to the EC about the illegal transfer of some 3,000 voters to the constituency and also want the municipal chief executive for Winneba, Kassim Zubeiru to cease destroying billboards belonging to the party or else the party would devise a strategy to protect its properties.
