The flagbearer of the New Patriotic party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will soon cover dialysis cases.
This, he said, will bring relief to many Ghanaians who are currently struggling to afford the costly treatment.
Dr. Bawumia made this statement during his campaign tour of the Upper East Region, where he addressed various gatherings and interacted with Chiefs and people of Bolgatanga.
Not long ago, the Renal Patients Association of Ghana has expressed concerns over the recent surge in dialysis costs which moved from GH¢380 to GH¢491. This hike follows earlier opposition from the association regarding a similar upward adjustment in expenses earlier this year.
They lament that the increment will exacerbate the financial strain on patients already struggling to manage previous bills.
It is for this reason that the announcement by the NPP flagbearer to ensure that NHIS cover the treatment of Dialysis, will come as a great relief to the Renal Patients Association of Ghana.
In addition to the NHIS announcement, Dr. Bawumia also revealed that his government from 2025 plans to transition Ghana from fuel energy to solar energy, as part of efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce the country’s carbon footprint.
This move, he explained, will not only help protect the environment but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth. He is confident this move will ensure Ghana join the rest of the world to use environmental friendly vehicles and other electronic devices.
