Election 2024: NPP foresaw Mahama’s victory months before polls – Nana Akomea

A key member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, Nana Akomea, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had prior knowledge of the election outcome months before the polls.

According to Nana Akomea, the NPP’s internal research conducted in February 2024 showed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, was leading by ten percentage points.

Making an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana On Friday, December 13, Nana Akomea noted that “We were alarmed by the 10-point lead, but by September and October, the gap had narrowed to about 2 percentage points, giving us confidence.”

Despite the closing gap, the final tally confirmed earlier predictions, with John Dramani Mahama securing 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia obtaining 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).

Nana Akomea has called for an investigation into the voter turnout, citing a massive 2 million people staying away from the polls.”

We need to find out why,” he emphasized.

The Electoral Commission (EC) officially declared the results on December 9, 2024.

The voter turnout disparity and margin of victory have left the NPP seeking answers to understand the electorate’s sentiments and address the factors contributing to their defeat.
