Election 2024: Speaker of Parliament warns against military deployment

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin has cautioned against the deployment of military personnel during the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, unless absolutely necessary.

Metro TV’s Parliamentary Correspondent Jeffery Attipoe, reports the Speaker made this statement during his initial address to members on the first day of the third session of the eighth parliament.

Bagbin expressed concerns that the involvement of military personnel in previous elections had led to preventable incidents, rather than protecting the electorate.

He urged restraint in deploying military personnel, emphasizing the need to prioritize peaceful and democratic elections.
