The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor, has appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure a level playing field for all political parties in the upcoming general elections.
Mr. Agbavitor expressed concern over the EC’s alleged bias towards the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the ongoing voter registration process, which could undermine the democratic process.
He noted that the heavy deployment of security personnel to registration centers was intimidating registrants and sometimes resulted in excessive control over the registration process.
The NDC Chairman also supported the demand by the party’s National Secretary, Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, for answers regarding the disappearance of Biometric Verification Registration Machines (BVRs).
He urged the EC to address these issues to maintain electoral integrity.
Meanwhile, the Ho Central Constituency Secretary for the NPP, Mr. Bright Doh, has urged political parties to educate the public on their right to vote and select their leaders.
The Ho Central Constituency has so far registered about 3,000 voters out of a target of 11,000 by the deadline.
The Deputy Constituency Secretary for the NDC, Mr. Adzanku Theophilus, blamed the EC and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the lack of publicity and voter education.
