Election 2024: Wontumi FM/TV presenter arrested for spreading false information

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a presenter at Kumasi-based Wontumi FM/TV, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region for spreading false information ahead of the December 7 elections.

According to the police, oheneba Asiedu was invited to the Ashanti Regional Police Command on November 23, 2024, and was taken into custody.

He is being held for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

In a video clip circulating on social media, Oheneba Asiedu falsely claimed that voting for the first 7 candidates on the presidential ballot will take place on December 7, while voting for the remaining candidates takes place on December 8..

The Ghana Police Service has described his assertions as “false and likely to disturb the public peace.”

Oheneba Asiedu is currently being prepared for court, and further updates on the case are expected soon.
