Election petition against NDC’s Jomoro MP thrown out

The Sekondi High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the eligibility of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey.

The application was filed by one, Joshua Emuah Kofie who challenged the eligibility of the MP to contest as a representative of the people in the constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the applicant, the MP holds multiple nationalities, including American and Ivorian citizenships, which contradicts the 1992 Constitution.

In June this year, the MP was ordered to produce documents renouncing her Ivorian citizenship.

The Sekondi High Court gave the order for the MP, Dorcas Affo-Toffey to produce the document within 10 days as proof of renunciation of her Ivorian citizenship.

The order was made as part of the case challenging the legitimacy of Dorcas Affo-Toffey holding the position of an MP.
