Election Watch Ghana has written to the Electoral Commission of Ghana, appealing the decision to deny them observer status for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
In a letter dated November 8, 2024, Executive Secretary Austin Rose Austine Blankson expressed understanding of the Commission’s decision but emphasized Election Watch Ghana’s contributions to promoting transparency and accountability in Ghana’s electoral process.
“As a dedicated election watchdog, Election Watch Ghana has consistently demonstrated its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections,” Blankson stated.
He highlighted the organization’s advocacy for electoral integrity and its potential to enhance the credibility of the polls.
Election Watch Ghana requested the Commission to share specific criteria that led to their disqualification, seeking feedback to address shortcomings and improve future applications.
The organization also asked the Commission to reconsider their application and involve them in the 2024 elections.
The Electoral Commission had earlier rejected Election Watch Ghana’s application for accreditation as an observer for the 2024 general elections.
