The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul Hamid, has reiterated the need for consumers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to embrace the Cylinder Recirculation Module (CRM).
Speaking at a public sensitization forum in Koforidua, Eastern Region, Dr. Hamid said the module, which has already been implemented in the Greater Accra Region and other parts of the country, aims to ensure safety, efficiency, and protection of the ozone layer.
The forum, themed “Cylinder Recirculation Module: Making LPG Accessible to All in a Safe and Efficient Manner,” marked the 2024 Consumer Week celebration.
The CRM allows consumers to exchange empty cylinders for filled ones at designated exchange points within their communities.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, emphasized the need for stakeholders to collaborate to ensure a safer environment.
Dr. Hamid described the policy as a game-changer and appealed to Ghanaians to patronize it.
He expressed concern about the increasing prices of LPG, noting that affordable prices would encourage the use of LPG instead of firewood.
The Deputy Minister for Energy, Prof. Adomako Mensah, explained that the CRM reduces the risks of accidents, ensures better enforcement of safety standards, and allows for regular inspection of cylinders.
He said only cylinders meeting the highest safety requirements are distributed to consumers under the module.
