The chairperson of the NDC National Youth Working Committee, Emmanuel Okai Mintah, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Youth Organiser, promising to push government appointees to create more opportunities for young party members and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 elections.
In a statement announcing his candidacy, Mr Mintah said the National Democratic Congress was “not just a party” to him but his life’s work, adding that he had spent his entire adult life building the party and its youth wing from the grassroots to the national level.
He cited his recent role as head of operations for the National Youth Wing Campaign 2024, saying the campaign had helped mobilise young people behind President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
Mr Mintah said the role of National Youth Organiser should be a full time commitment focused on securing opportunities for the party’s youth base.
“The National Youth Organiser must firmly and relentlessly push our appointees to open real opportunities for the NDC youth base,” he said.
He argued that government appointees should concentrate on the work of government while party officers focus on party organisation, saying both responsibilities required leaders who were fully committed to their respective roles.
As part of his campaign promises, Mr Mintah said he would establish a correspondence desk to receive complaints, concerns and requests for opportunities from young party members.
He also pledged to intensify activities on university campuses and within the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN), describing them as crucial to preparing the party for the next general election.
“Winning Election 2028 starts now,” he said. “It requires a youth wing that is organised, powerful, disciplined, ready and impossible to ignore.”
Mr Mintah said he would press appointees to deliver on the mandate given to them by the President and would not tolerate what he described as excuses.
He maintained that creating opportunities for young people who worked for the party during the 2024 campaign was essential to securing another electoral victory in 2028.
The aspiring National Youth Organiser also contrasted the NDC with the opposition New Patriotic Party, saying the NDC would rely on hard work, teamwork, ideas and innovation to strengthen its appeal among young voters.
He called on party members to support his bid when nominations are opened, saying he wanted to help build a youth wing defined by efficiency, innovation, influence and sustainability.
Mr Mintah signed the declaration from the “June 10 House”, which he described as a symbolic reference to the date the NDC was founded in 1992.
