Energy Minister to commission electrification projects in Central Gonja District on Oct. 11

Communities in the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region will soon have access to electricity as the government completes a major rural electrification initiative.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, will on Saturday, October 11, 2025, commission completed electrification projects in Zolampe, Nikpegu, Torope, Dokope, Kpatinyan, Darivogupe, Bagpe, Dawunipe, Diwurupe, Larigbani, Mammudupe, Sankaupe and Nyinyape.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition said the initiative is part of efforts to extend reliable and affordable electricity to rural communities, improve living standards, and support inclusive development under the National Electrification Scheme.

The event is expected to bring together traditional leaders, opinion leaders, officials of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), the Central Gonja District Assembly, and members of the beneficiary communities.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Mr Jinapor reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to modern energy services across the country.

“Electricity is not just about lighting homes, it is about powering opportunity, driving enterprise, and transforming lives,” he said. “Through projects like this, we are delivering on our promise to make energy the foundation of Ghana’s green and inclusive development.”

The Ministry described the commissioning as another milestone in government’s agenda to promote sustainable growth through energy access.
