National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has hailed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) swift response to the petitions his party submitted across the 16 regions.
Appearing on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the EC’s press release within 24 hours of receiving the petitions was “refreshing” and demonstrated urgency.
He emphasized that the NDC’s demands for transparency and reforms remain unaddressed.
However, he criticized the EC’s initial response, describing it as “totally irresponsible” and “insulting” to the NEC and the people of Ghana.
“The bedrock of free, fair elections is a credible voters register. Once you produce a credible voter register, the task of delivering a credible election is 60-70%,” Sammy Gyamfi stressed, reiterating the NDC’s call for an independent forensic audit of the 2024 provisional voter register and its IT systems.
The NDC National Communications Officer highlighted the importance of a credible voter register, citing the EC’s failure to provide political parties with copies of the provisional register before exhibition.
“The law provides that after the compilation of the provisional register, the Electoral Commission must exhibit the register, but before exhibition, the EC must furnish political parties with copies of the provisional register,” he explained.
