The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region took to the principal streets of Cape Coast, clad in red and black, to demand a forensic audit and re-exhibition of the 2024 provisional voters register for the region.
Gabriella Tetteh, party’s Central Regional Communications Officer, addressed the gathering, highlighting concerns over discrepancies between the provisional voters register data sent by the Electoral Commission’s Head Office and the data recorded at various district offices.
According to her, these discrepancies could potentially impact the outcome of elections in the Central Region if the provisional voters register is not audited.
The NDC is demanding a forensic audit to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the voters register.
The demo is part of a broader pushback against the Electoral Commission, with similar protests planned in other regions. Recently, the Accra Regional Police Command reached an agreement with the NDC on protest routes for similar demonstrations in the capital.
