EOCO probes alleged financial misappropriation at GPHA after Metro TV report

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has initiated an investigation into alleged financial improprieties at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), specifically regarding the Boankra Inland Project.

The investigation was prompted by a news story aired on Metro TV, in which Nana Kojo Abbam, a research fellow at the Forum for Development and Accountable Governance (FDAG), spoke about the alleged financial misappropriation and called on EOCO to investigate the matter.

“We kindly invite you to meet with the Ag. Executive Director at the Head Office of the Economic and Organised Crime Office… for a discussion on the matter,” Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, Ag. Executive Director of EOCO stated in a confidential letter addressed to Kojo Abban.

The meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 am. EOCO’s Head Office is located on Barnes Road, adjacent to the Old Parliament House, the letter disclosed.

EOCO is a specialized agency responsible for monitoring and investigating economic and organized crimes, with the authority to prosecute these offences and recover proceeds of crime.

Forum for Development and Accountable Governance

A group advocating for development and accountable governance in Ghana has called for an immediate investigation into alleged corrupt activities at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

This move comes after the group uncovered evidence of massive financial losses due to corrupt deals, thievery, financial malfeasance, and procurement breaches.

The group is urging investigative bodies in Ghana to thoroughly investigate these allegations and retrieve any stolen or misappropriated funds.
