The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has responded sharply to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent political moves in the Ashanti Region, declaring that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will lose the 2024 elections in the region, even if Bawumia brings his entire family there.
Speaking during the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk in Kumasi, Mahama took a swipe at Bawumia, who had recently announced a two-week tour of the Ashanti Region following Mahama’s planned visit.
According to Mahama, his campaign team had made the strategic decision to visit other regions first to avoid clashing with Bawumia’s scheduled tour.
However, Mahama noted that Bawumia quickly returned to the region after Mahama confirmed his visit to Kumasi, seemingly in an effort to overshadow the NDC’s presence.
“Even if Bawumia brings Hajia Samira Bawumia and all his family members, including his bed, to the Ashanti Region, the NDC will win this year’s elections.”
He made it clear that the NPP’s influence in the region was rapidly waning, as the NDC’s support continues to grow among the people of Ashanti.
Mahama also expressed surprise at the overwhelming turnout during the Kumasi walk, attributing the enthusiasm to the increasing support for the NDC in the region.
“The massive turnout is a clear sign of the growing support for the NDC in the Ashanti Region. It’s no wonder that Bawumia and the NPP can’t sleep and are constantly referring to me in their statements,” he added.
The former president emphasized that something extraordinary is going to happen in this year’s election, suggesting a shift in the political landscape that could lead to a surprising result in the Ashanti Region, historically a stronghold of the NPP.
