Ex-NPP aspirant remanded in U.S for allegedly stabbing wife

Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the Klottey Korle Constituency, has been remanded into custody in the United States following an alleged stabbing incident involving his spouse.

Police in Lower Paxton Township said the 41-year-old was arrested on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after they responded to a domestic emergency call at a residence on Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg.

According to the Police Department, officers arrived at the location at about 10:00 a.m. and found a woman with multiple stab injuries.

She was immediately taken to a hospital by emergency medical personnel.

A police statement issued on Monday said the victim was in stable condition and emphasised that the incident was confined to the household and did not pose any danger to the public.

Forensic officers remained at the scene for several hours on Saturday to collect evidence to aid investigations.

Mr Nortey has been charged with Criminal Attempt–Homicide, Possession of an Instrument of Crime with Intent to Use, and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence.

Court documents show that he appeared before Magisterial District Judge David Judy for arraignment, where bail was denied due to the seriousness of the charges.

The accused contested the Klottey Korle parliamentary seat during the 2016 and 2020 general elections and was active in NPP political activities in the Greater Accra Region.

He is currently being held at the Dauphin County Prison.

A preliminary hearing has been fixed for January 26, 2026, to determine whether the case will proceed to trial at the Court of Common Pleas.
