Ex-NSB Boss, Wife Charged Over GH¢49m State Funds Theft

Former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahen, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have been formally charged with stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, conspiracy to commit crime, and money laundering over the alleged diversion of GH¢49.1 million in state funds.

According to the charge sheet, the couple, along with Mildred Donkor—a former banking relations officer—and Advantage Solutions Limited, a company they allegedly used as a front, are accused of orchestrating the theft through falsified transactions and shell company activities.

Mr. Adu Boahen was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on March 20 upon arriving at Kotoka International Airport from London. His wife was taken into custody the following day when she visited EOCO offices to inquire about his detention.

Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine confirmed the charges are linked to financial irregularities surrounding a $7 million contract for a national cyber defence system. The accused are suspected of siphoning state funds earmarked for national security infrastructure into private accounts.

Investigations continue as the state prepares for a full trial.
