Business and leadership coach, Edward Ato Sarpong, has launched his highly anticipated book, “Eyewitness to Leadership,” offering invaluable insights into the pitfalls of leadership.
In “The Seductions of Leadership,” chapter 9 of the book, Ato Sarpong explores the three main reasons leaders fail and fall.
He draws real-world examples, including the downfall of former Algerian President Bouteflika, AC Milan’s shocking defeat in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final, the collapse of Lehman Brothers and News of the World, and former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’s 49-day tenure.
Ato Sarpong identifies three key drivers of leadership failure as self (prioritizing personal interests over organizational goals), sight (failure to anticipate and adapt to changing circumstances), and scope and scale (overexpansion and loss of focus)
“When managers of an enterprise become in-disciplined and lose, the inner will do what is right, they plunge the company they lead into a crisis that may eventually lead to its collapse,” Ato Sarpong noted.
