Ghana Police Service has taken off unauthorised sirens, strobe lights and fake headlamps from 188 vehicles during its traffic enforcement exercise in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The random operation was carried out at the Airport and Santasi Roundabouts, targeting the miss use of these emergency warning devices including the unlawful use of road shoulders and verges.
The inspection was undertaken by the collective efforts of officers from the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), the Central MTTD in Accra and a team from the Police National Headquarters.
The service, on July 8, 2026 issued a statement after the exercise indicating the interception of 188 vehicles for various traffic offences like the unauthorised use of sirens, strobe lights and improvised headlamps.
The statement also indicated that the drivers involved were taken through the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations and cautioned against future offences.
The Service noted that the operation forms part of efforts to improve discipline and safety on the the various roads.
The Police Service said operation of the sort would be carried out in other parts of the country and motorists are urged to stop the installation of unauthorised emergency warning devices on their vehicles as it breaches the Road Traffic Regulations.
