A man has been arrested in Obuasi after allegedly posing as a military officer to extort money from illegal miners.
The suspect, believed to be from Bogoso, is accused of impersonating a soldier and demanding money from people involved in illegal mining activities in the area.
According to reports, his alleged scheme came to an end after the miners became suspicious of his identity. They reportedly discovered that he was not a member of the military and apprehended him before handing him over to the authorities.
The case has drawn attention because both the alleged extortion and the illegal mining activities are criminal offences. While the suspect is accused of pretending to be a soldier to extort money, the miners who exposed him are themselves said to have been engaged in illegal mining.
Authorities are expected to investigate the matter further.
