A 40-year-old fashion designer from Agbedrafor in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for defiling and impregnating his 14 years old biological daughter
The convict, Gideon Doe Adifu, was found guilty after the court established that he repeatedly sexually abused the child while she was living with him and his wife.
According to the prosecution, the abuse went undetected until Adifu’s wife, who is the complainant, noticed that their daughter was pregnant. When questioned, the child disclosed that her father was responsible.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to Adifu’s arrest and prosecution.
A medical examination tendered in court confirmed that the victim was seventeen weeks pregnant at the time of the report.
In sentencing, the court described the offence as grave and a serious violation of parental trust, and stressed the need for punishment that would serve as a deterrent and protect children from abuse.
