The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has closed several water production facilities in parts of Accra for operating without the required licenses.
The shutdowns, which took place in Ashaiman, Teshie, Nungua, and the Ga West Municipality, were carried out by the FDA’s Food Inspectorate and Enforcement Team as part of its ongoing compliance and surveillance operations.
According to the Authority, many of the facilities were producing water under poor sanitary conditions that posed potential health risks to consumers.
The FDA is urging the public to buy only from approved and properly regulated sources to ensure their safety.
“The FDA remains committed to ensuring that only safe and properly regulated products are available to the public,” the agency said in a statement.
The recent enforcement exercise forms part of broader efforts to crack down on unlicensed and unhygienic food and beverage producers across the country.
