The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a fetish priest to 10 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping his daughter and impregnating her three times.
Agya Koo was convicted and sentenced after he admitted to having sexual relations with his daughter for over five years, leading to multiple pregnancies and forced abortions under the guise of spiritual cleansing.
The disturbing revelations came to light after the victim’s mother, who is now separated from the accused, reported the matter to the police.
The 20-year-old victim disclosed that the abuse began when she was in her mid-teens. She said her father manipulated her into believing that a river spirit had married her spiritually and that he had been chosen by the spirit to sleep with her.
She further revealed that after getting her pregnant three times, her father forced her to undergo abortions. On one occasion, he even made her accuse an innocent boy of being responsible for the pregnancy, leading to the boy being fined by the community.
The fetish priest threatened his daughter that she would die if she disclosed their affair to anyone.
The young lady also revealed that, her father sometimes slept with her in the bush where they go to fetch herbs.
