FIFA has announced the creation of a new global honour, the “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World”, an annual award designed to celebrate individuals who have made exceptional and extraordinary contributions towards peace and unity through football.
The inaugural recipient will receive the award from FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Friday, 5 December 2025, during the Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 26™ in Washington DC.
According to FIFA, the new accolade seeks to recognise “individuals who, through their unwavering commitment and their special actions, have helped to unite people all over the world in peace and consequently deserve a special and unique recognition.”
The governing body emphasised that the award represents the spirit of more than five billion football-loving people across the globe who live the game’s motto – “Football Unites the World.”
With their daily actions in and for football, they continue to bring together girls and boys, women and men, in shared passion, joy, hope, and happiness.
In announcing the new initiative, FIFA President Gianni Infantino underlined the significance of honouring those using football as a bridge for peace.
“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it’s fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace,” said Infantino.
“Football stands for peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World will recognise the enormous efforts of those individuals who unite people, bringing hope for future generations.”
The “FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World” is set to become one of FIFA’s most meaningful honours, symbolising the sport’s enduring power to foster harmony, understanding, and togetherness across nations.
