A final-year student of Mfantsipim School has been confirmed dead in an apparent suicide case, according to the Central Regional Police Command.
The deceased, identified as 17-year-old Emmanuel Arthur, was discovered in an uncompleted building at Ola North in Cape Coast after a local carpenter alerted authorities to the presence of a body at the site.
Police officers who responded to the report on June 11, 2026, found the remains and commenced investigations. During a search of the scene, investigators retrieved a black backpack containing educational materials, including a Geography Paper 1 mock examination paper bearing the student’s name.
Two mobile phones, an Android device and a basic handset, as well as other personal effects were also recovered from the location.
School authorities later confirmed that Emmanuel Arthur was a final-year student of Mfantsipim School.
The student’s family was subsequently notified, and a pathologist at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital examined the body, which had reportedly undergone significant decomposition. Following the examination, the remains were released to the family.
After the body was removed, the building where it was found was fumigated, while relatives proceeded with burial arrangements.
Police investigations have concluded that the student died by suicide. However, authorities say the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no further details have been established.
