A gas filling station in Asufufu, Sunyani, caught fire on June 12, 2024, burning nearby houses and cars.
The fire, which started around 7:30 pm, was brought under control by the Ghana National Fire Service after a four-hour battle.
Eyewitnesses told Metro TV that the fire service arrived late, delaying the response to the emergency.
The fire station is about a five-minute drive from the scene, but the personnel arrived after an hour, allowing the fire to spread and cause more damage.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started during the offloading of gas, and the personnel ran away, leaving the fire to spread to nearby houses, burning one completely.
The Bono Regional Office of the Ghana National Fire Service declined to comment on the incident, but Metro TV reports that the region’s fire tender is not functioning, and assistance was sought from nearby fire stations in Dua-yaw Nkwant, Airport, and Nsuatre.
