Fisherman bites off rival’s lip over gari dispute in Afram Plains

A disagreement over a small serving of gari has turned violent at Apesika in the Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region, leaving one man without part of his lip.

According to residents, the suspect, identified only as Akli, had given another fisherman, Ibrana, half a cup of gari in exchange for a fish that was meant for Akli’s sister. Two weeks later, when Ibrana failed to deliver the fish, explaining that he had fallen ill, Akli confronted him.

The argument quickly escalated. Akli, his mother, his sister, and an accomplice named Torgbe allegedly attacked Ibrana, knocking him to the ground. In the scuffle, witnesses say Akli grabbed Ibrana’s face, bit off part of his lip, and swallowed it.

When asked about the missing tissue, Akli reportedly told onlookers, “I have chewed and swallowed it.”

Police have since arrested Akli and Torgbe to assist with investigations. Akli’s sister, who was also involved in the attack, is currently on the run.
