The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has remanded five chiefs into police custody for allegedly pulling down a billboard of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Agona East, Hannah Asamoah.
The chiefs, who were arrested on Sunday evening, were arraigned before the court on Monday, despite the strike by organized labor, and were handed a three-day remand sentence.
Metro TV gathers the NPP parliamentary candidate had sought permission from the Agona Mankrong Nkwanta palace to hang her banner, which was granted by the traditional leaders.
However, the chiefs were surprised to see a giant billboard displaying the images of the parliamentary candidate and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, instead of the requested banner.
The chiefs claimed that the spot was already marked for the construction of a community durbar grounds and therefore pulled down the billboard, citing deception by the parliamentary candidate.
The five remanded chiefs are expected to reappear before the court on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
