Five Ghanaian Members of Parliament who were caught up in the violent protests in Kenya are safe and secure, the Parliament of Ghana has assured.
According to a press statement from the Parliamentary Service, the MPs, who are members of the Local Government Committee, were on a benchmarking visit to the Kenyan Parliament when the incident occurred.
The statement named the MPs as Emmanuel Akwasi Gyamfi, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Sylvester Tetteh, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, and Mohammed Taferu. They were accompanied by a Senior Principal Assistant Clerk, Anita Quartey Papafio.
The delegation was escorted to safety by officials of the Kenyan Parliament and are currently secured in their hotel.
“We appreciate the concern from the general public and wish to indicate that efforts are underway to ensure their safe return to Ghana,” the statement added.
