Fixing the Country Movement slams OSP’s clearance of Mahama in Airbus scandal

The Fixing the Country Movement has expressed outrage over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) decision to clear former President John Mahama of corruption allegations in the Airbus bribery scandal.

The convener, Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah Bonsu, in a statement questioned the OSP’s conclusion, saying it “leaves a lot to be desired”.

“The OSP’s decision is ironical, as UK and US Court documents describe Government Official 1 (Mahama) as a beneficiary of the bribery scheme,” Owusu-Bempah stated.

He emphasized that Airbus engaged in a scheme to offer and pay bribes to decision-makers, including foreign officials, to obtain improper business advantages.

“Judicial records show that Airbus hired Mahama’s brother, Samuel Adam Mahama, as an intermediary in the sale of military transport aircraft to Ghana,” Owusu-Bempah noted.

He criticized the OSP for failing to prosecute Mahama, despite evidence of bribery.

“This is a crucial case that tests the OSP’s willingness and ability to investigate and prosecute serious alleged criminality,” Owusu-Bempah said.

The Fixing the Country Movement has given the OSP a 7-day ultimatum to reconsider its decision, threatening a public demonstration to register their displeasure.

“Let’s all say no to corruption,” Owusu-Bempah concluded.
