A member of the National Communication Bureau of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dzifa Tsegah, says the Akufo-Addo led administration deserves no commendation for the violence-free Fix the Country protest.
While applauding the Ghana Police Service for their professional conduct, she maintains the security officers did not unleash brutalities on the protestors owing that they share the same sentiment with them.
“I wouldn’t mince with the truth. I will applaud the police. They did extremely well. I was elated. They were numerous of them,’ Dzifa Tsegah, who belongs to the opposition NDC said on Adwenekasa Thursday morning
In recent times, peaceful protestors have been at the receiving end of some brutalities in the country.
However, when the #FixTheCountry protestors hit the principal streets of Accra to protest on August 4, 2021, to register their displeasure at the government and demand for better livelihood no brutality was recorded.
Some Ghanaians have heaped praises on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration for ensuring the safety of the protestors.
But speaking to Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Original 91.9FM, Ms. Dzifa Tsegah disagreed arguing that the governing party deserves no credit for the violence-free Fix the Country protest
“No is not to the credit of the government because, first of all, I mentioned that for the first time this particular group is not an organized group. It is not someone converging them. This is Ghanaians in general from all walks of lives and you realize that the main messages of their placards most spoke on behalf of the Police Service. Most of them because they were in uniforms so they had to behave as uninformed people but I felt per comportment compared to other protests show they were in the spirit of the ‘Fix The Country’ protest. In that spirit, they were doing it out of passion. Not out of order because I have compared other protests and the way they handled the crowd and you realize that this was different,” she averred.
She mentioned that the government takes no responsibility for its actions therefore it would be wholly unfair on the part of the government to applaud itself when it is the other way round.
If I’m supposed to attach it to the credit of this government, no It wouldn’t be that because I also find it very frustrating whenever something bad comes up this government wants to excuse themselves from but when something looks good, whether they’re directly involved or not they want to take the credit for it. No. I realized that in spirit the police was also protesting for the fix the country people.”
