Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been arrested by national security operatives amid ongoing investigations into alleged financial impropriety during his tenure.
The arrest occurred at Jumah’s residence in Kumasi on Sunday, June 29, after security personnel approached him with a request to discuss pending matters. He was subsequently transported in a pickup vehicle to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where he remains in custody.
Sources familiar with the case indicate that Jumah is being probed for alleged mismanagement of state assets, including the unauthorized sale of company property and irregular vehicle acquisitions while serving as head of the state-owned distillery.
This development follows a previous operation on May 15, during which security agents attempted to retrieve official vehicles believed to be unlawfully retained by the former executive. Jumah was not home at the time, and the effort was unsuccessful.
While no formal charges have yet been filed, the arrest marks a significant escalation in what appears to be a broader crackdown on potential corruption within state enterprises.
