Former Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital, Dr Thomas Winsum Anaba, has outlined plans to help deliver good healthcare services in the Garu district.
Dr Anaba who is a native of the area and aspiring to lead the people in the political ladder has stated that he has plans underway to help the district get the best health delivery.
Dr Anaba mentioned that the provision of good health facilities, provision of good medical equipment, motivation of health staff who are posted to the area, and sponsorship scheme for health students who would graduate and return back to work in the area are the key points noted.
Currently, the Garu district is without a public hospital within its catchment area. The district has health centers and CHPS compounds in discharging health services. A hospital structure that was under construction during the Mahama-led NDC administration was abandoned when they left office. Currently, through the NPP government policy, Agenda 111, another hospital construction is underway in the area.
The nearest public hospital to the Garu area is the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital. However, due to the conflict in the Bawku area, that hospital is not effectively operational and it is not even safe for any patient to be transferred to be there.
Dr Thomas Anaba is currently the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Garu Constituency. He beat the incumbent MP, Albert Akuka Alalzuga to secure that spot in the just-ended parliamentary primaries.
Dr Thomas Anaba was the Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital but was axed from his position in 2017 when the Akufo Addo-led NPP government took office and that issue pulled slugs of controversies in the country.
He is currently with the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale and he’s also the CEO of the Harbarcus Hospital in Tamale.
