Former STC Boss Slams ‘Collapsed Company’ Claim by New Deputy MD

Former Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has taken strong exception to recent remarks made by the newly appointed Deputy Managing Director of the company Nuru Hamidan.

According to media reports, the new deputy MD Nuru Hamidan described STC as being “dead, with no buses to operate and assets sold to cronies reducing the company to a shell of its former self.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Nana Akomea described the comments as uninformed and misleading. He noted that during his tenure, STC was run through a comprehensive stakeholder management structure, where all major decisions were made with the input of a broad range of personnel.

“Every decision was taken with the participation of union leadership, drivers, procurement and stores teams, operations, workshop/technical staff, finance and audit, ticketing, IT, and even retired staff — all before seeking Board approval,” he stated.

He expressed surprise that such an inclusive process could be described as responsible for the alleged collapse of the company.

Nana Akomea also questioned the inconsistency in the deputy MD’s claims, pointing out that a supposedly dead company continues to pay salaries to over 700 staff, including that of the deputy MD himself, for several months since his appointment.

“I wonder why the deputy MD was not asked how a dead company is able to sustain monthly salaries for such a large workforce,” Akomea remarked.

He announced his intention to appear on the same radio platform in Accra upon his return to offer a detailed response and expose what he called the deputy MD’s “hollow understanding” of the issues at stake.

“Ill-informed propaganda will not pass,” he concluded.
