President Mahama has challenged Ghanaian youth to redefine their role in the economy—not as job seekers, but as job creators.
Speaking at the launch of the One Million Coders Programme, he declared, “We are changing the national narrative—from young people waiting for jobs to young people creating jobs.”
With over 50,000 applications received in the first 48 hours, the demand for digital skills is clear—and the need is urgent. The programme, which has launched initial cohorts in Accra, Kumasi, Sunyani, and Bolgatanga, will expand across all districts using Community Information Centres as training hubs.
Mahama laid out a transformative vision for OMCP:
Job Creation in the $410B global BPO market
Entrepreneurship through local tech startups
Education Reform that embeds digital skills in universities and technical institutions
Equity and Inclusion for rural youth, women, and persons with disabilities
“This programme is your launchpad,” Mahama told the youth. “Own it. You are the architects of Ghana’s digital future.”
