Fuel Tanker Rolls Over On Accra-Tema Highway

In the early hours of Friday morning, a fuel tanker on the Tema Motorway’s Accra section fell, spilling its cargo.

Between 7am and 8am in the morning, drivers on the Accra section of the Tema Motorway saw a petrol tanker’s pod tip over 200 meters from the toll booth, causing a significant spill.

Although the reason of the incident is yet unknown, the leakage has resulted in heavy traffic on that stretch of the highway, leaving some vehicles with little choice but to turn off their engines.

Residents were seen collecting the remaining petroleum flowing out of the tanker with basins, gallons, and other containers, suggesting that the unfortunate occurrence may have ended up being a “blessing” for some.

Some commercial drivers were also sighted with gallons fetching the free fuel which abound on the motorway while others who had already fetched theirs were seen filling the tanks of their cars.

As at when this report was being filed, a Ghana Fire Service truck was seen at the scene with a few officers obviously overwhelmed by the situation.

Some concerned persons however lamented the dangers posed by the spillage to the lives of the people around, especially those busily going so close to the tanker to get their fair share of the “bounty.”
