Gabby did ‘dirty work’ for Akufo-Addo by lambasting Former CJ — Mensah Thompson

The Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mensah Thompson has alleged that a leading member of the governing, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere Darko threw an unsavory message to the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo on behalf of  President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking to Metro TV, Mensah Thompson stated in plain terms, “Gabby Otchere was insulting the former CJ on behalf of the President.”

Grounding firm to his position, he also alleged that perhaps, the former Chief Justice was getting a taste of her own medicine, saying, “Sophia Akuffo herself is not a saint, but who am I to intervene in a fight between two elephants?”

This follows the former Chief Justice’s decision to join a group of pensioner bondholders who were picketing at the Finance Ministry to melt down the decision to take their bonds.

The former Chief Justice on Friday, February 10, 2023, joined a group of pensioners to picket at the Finance Ministry.

Many have described her act as a brave one and also changing the face of our democracy.

She described the move by the government as sheer wickedness and outright disrespect to the elderly who have sacrificed their lives for the development of the nation.

Madam Sophia called on the government to be transparent and account to Ghanaians what led to the current economic crisis bedevilling the nation.

However, her utterances infuriated Gabby Otchere-Darko who could not fathom the former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo’s submission on the inclusion of pensioners in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.

Mr. Otchere-Darko added that while he sympathizes with those picketing, he finds it difficult to understand why they are asking “to be exempted from an improved offer programme which is voluntary.”

“Why picket over an offer that you have the liberty not to accept?” he quizzed.
