Gabriella Tetteh slams gov’t over economic hardship, premix fuel mismanagement

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Central Regional Communications Director, Gabriella Tetteh, has raised significant concerns about Ghana’s economic challenges and alleged resource mismanagement.

Appearing on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, December 2, she argued that while global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war have impacted economies,, they should not serve as excuses for poor governance.

According to Ms Tetteh, “Leadership is why we vote, and blaming external factors cannot justify the current economic hardships.”

She painted a grim picture of the nation’s living conditions, citing skyrocketing prices that have left many unable to afford basic meals.

Gabriella Tetteh asked pointedly, “Is the Ukraine war responsible for mismanaging the cedi or taking on unsustainable debts?”

Shifting the focus to premix fuel, a lifeline for coastal fishermen, she alleged widespread diversion of resources. Out of 50 million liters allocated by the Ministry of Fisheries last year, only 20 million liters reportedly reached fishermen, with 30 million liters unaccounted for.

When pressed by the host about where the missing fuel might have gone, Ms Tetteh said, “The government and national security should answer that.”

Gabriella Tetteh criticized the Fisheries Ministry for inaction and called for accountability. She underscored that these failures exacerbate hardships in fishing communities, urging better management and transparency to support livelihoods.
