The Ghana Armed Forces has suspended its ongoing recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region after a fatal incident at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday morning.
In a statement, the military expressed deep regret over the tragedy, which occurred during the 2025–2026 recruitment process.
Officials say the suspension will allow time to review safety measures and ensure the rest of the exercise proceeds smoothly.
A Board of Inquiry has been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Recruitment activities in the country’s other 15 regions will continue as planned.
“The Armed Forces deeply regrets any inconvenience this suspension may have caused, particularly to affected applicants,” said Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Navy.
She added that a new date for the resumption of the Accra exercise will be announced later.
