Lawuratu Musah-Saaka, communications team member of the New Patriotic Party, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating galamsey in the country.
On Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, she emphasized that a collective effort is crucial for total success in this fight.
“How many of us reject money from these galamseyers we claimed we identified?”Madam Musah-Saaka posed.
“How many churches say that this person is said to be doing galamsey, so we won’t take their offertory? How many mosques will say that because this person is alleged to be in this thing, we won’t take their money? It comes to our moral thing, and remember.”
She also expressed dismay at the notion that galamsey is a recent development.
“The impression that this thing has just surfaced is mind-boggling.”
Galamsey has severe environmental and health implications, including deforestation, water pollution, and destruction of farmlands. It also poses significant health risks, with water pollution linked to chronic diseases like kidney failure, birth defects, and cancer.
