Galamsey poses existential threat to Ghana – Dr. Kennedy Arthur

A medical doctor and former presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kennedy Kobina Arthur, has warned that galamsey poses an existential threat to Ghana’s survival.

According to him, the government’s inability to tackle the menace head-on has become a matter of life and death, surpassing other critical issues like education and economic development.

“No, it is not education– you can’t educate our teenagers with free SHS while watching our expectant mothers and young children drink mercury,” Dr. Arthur noted in an article titled ‘The people’s manifesto’.

He lamented that despite repeated warnings from experts and neighboring countries, the government has failed to take decisive action against galamsey.

“The President who pledged to put his Presidency on the line to fight Galamsey has used his Presidency to serve and grow Galamsey without shame,” he accused.

Dr. Arthur called on Speaker Bagbin to name and shame MP galamseyers and refer them to law enforcement for prosecution.

“We must save this country in spite of politics,” he said.

He also urged traditional leaders, religious leaders, and the youth to join the fight against galamsey, emphasizing that “without a vision, the people will perish.”
