GAMLS launches 50-year Anniversary

Deputy Health Minister, Mahama Asei Seini has revealed that government will fully implement National Laboratory policy to improve lab practice in Ghana.

Speaking at the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists’ Golden Jubilee launch in Accra, Mahama Seini called on development partners to lend their support to the health sector.

The work of medical lab scientists is to promote science and develop the practice of medical laboratory science for the benefits of mankind. They collaborate with other health professionals to achieve optimal healthcare delivery in line with global best practices.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chemical Pathologist and Immediate Past President of West Africa Post Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science, Prof. Nafiu Amidu appealed to the government to set up a separate medical lab science regulatory authority to fast-track process in the sector.

Contributing to the debate, President of Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani urged the government to immediately scale up health delivery systems to improve operations of laboratory professionals in Ghana.

Meanwhile, President of West Africa Post-Graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science -Ghana Prof. George Awuku Asare called on the government to take urgent steps to minimize the situation where health professionals travel abroad for greener pastures to improve patient-doctor ratio.

The golden jubilee celebration by ghana association of medical laboratory scientists is on the theme 50 years of medical laboratory service: impact on health delivery systems in ghana, prospects and challenges.
