GBA President slams Annoh Dompreh over galamsey remarks

President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Yaw Acheampong Boafo, has criticized a statement made by Frank Annoh Dompreh, Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, which accused the opposition party of contributing more to the pollution of Ghana’s waters during their time in government than the current administration.

Yaw Acheampong Boafo described the comment as “irresponsible” and emblematic of the partisan politics harming the nation and thr fight against Galamsey.

Speaking at the annual general conference of the Ghana Bar Association at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Yaw Boafo expressed concern over how critical national issues like the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) are often reduced to political blame games.

He called on the government to adopt a more honest and bold approach to tackling illegal mining, rather than holding public discussions and media appearances that yield little action.

The Ghana Bar Association President called for review of the Free SHS policy to allow the well endowed to pay fee for their wards while creating more access for the less privilege in society, adding that scholarships should not be awarded to party cronies and relatives of appointees at the expense of the real brilliant but needy students who need to benefit.
