The Gbese Mantse Palace on Thursday hosted a press conference to officially launch the Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup, a football match scheduled for August 17, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The highly anticipated match pits Accra Hearts of Oak, the defending champions, against Kpando Hearts of Lions, with the aim of promoting peace, unity, and cultural pride.
Organiser Samuel Anim Addo unveiled the trophy, describing it as a symbol of peace and national unity. He highlighted the growth of the event and steps taken to improve this year’s edition, including a national tour of the trophy starting from the Office of the President.

Executives from both clubs expressed their teams’ excitement and readiness for the match, promising a competitive and respectful game while supporting the peace message behind the event.
A curtain-raiser game featuring coastal teams and a joint press conference with players and coaches from both sides are also planned. Organisers aim to expand the event to four teams in future editions.

The match day will feature musical performances and cultural displays, with traditional leaders calling on Ghanaians to come together in peace and respect Ga customs during Homowo.
The Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Cup promises to be a celebration of unity, culture, and national pride, beyond just a football match.
