The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has suspended all lectures until Monday, July 6, following the devastating floods that swept through parts of Accra earlier this week and affected some of its students.
In a notice shared on its official social media platforms, the university said both online and face-to-face lectures have been temporarily halted on the directive of management.
“The University Community is hereby informed that, by Management’s directive, all lectures (online and face-to-face) are temporarily suspended until Monday, 6th July, 2026, due to the devastating effects of the recent floods on some students,” the statement said.
Management assured students that further updates would be communicated through the university’s official channels, while expressing regret for the inconvenience caused.
“The University regrets any inconvenience this temporary suspension may cause and appreciates your understanding and cooperation,” the notice added.
The decision follows Monday’s torrential rains that triggered severe flooding across several parts of the Greater Accra Region, disrupting transportation, damaging homes and leaving multiple communities inundated.
Emergency services carried out rescue operations in hard-hit areas including Alajo, Circle, Kaneshie, Mallam and Tse Addo, as floodwaters stranded motorists and residents.
The flooding has also forced other tertiary institutions to suspend academic activities. Earlier, University of Ghana announced the suspension of lectures and advised students to remain indoors after floodwaters made movement unsafe on and around campus.
