Gender Ministry condemns landlord seen assaulting wife in viral video

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned an assault captured in a viral video in which a landlord is seen violently attacking his wife in their compound.

The incident, filmed by a tenant, has sparked public outrage, with residents claiming the man habitually beats his wife and that the pattern of abuse has caused growing concern within the community.

In a statement issued in Accra, the Ministry said no one has the right to abuse another person under any circumstance.

It described the act as barbaric and deeply troubling, stressing that such violence violates the rights of the victim and is punishable by law.

The Minister has contacted the Ghana Police Service to ensure a full and swift investigation.

The Ministry is also urging anyone with information, including eyewitnesses such as tenants, to support law enforcement efforts to secure justice for the victim.

According to the Ministry, domestic and sexual based violence remains a serious national concern.

It appealed to the public to report such incidents promptly to prevent further harm and to help hold perpetrators accountable.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to work with police and other relevant agencies to ensure that those responsible for acts of domestic violence face the full force of the law.

It encouraged the public to remain vigilant and to report suspected cases of abuse through the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 0800 111 222 or through the Ministry’s Helpline of Hope on 0800 800 800 or 0800 900 900 or by contacting the nearest police station.

The Ministry noted that community awareness and timely reporting are crucial for protecting victims and breaking the cycle of abuse.
