#GenZDemo: High Court stops 7-day protest, organizers vow to fight on

The High Court in Accra has granted an injunction application by the Police to stop the planned seven-day Gen-Z demo in Accra.

The court’s decision was based on the fact that Ghana is in an election year and the Police are constrained.

However, organizers of the demo, who represented themselves in court, argued that the Police’s reasons for seeking the injunction are the same reasons they have used to stop demonstrations in the country for the past seven years.

Despite this, the judge granted the Police’s application.

The organizers have vowed to remain calm and continue fighting to protect their democratic right to demonstrate.

“We will file another notice with the Police this afternoon to begin another round of engagements to ensure that Gen-Z’s of this country can demonstrate,” they said in a statement.

They also cautioned the Police against abusing court processes to prevent lawful and peaceful demonstrations, warning that spontaneous street protests could lead to a bigger crisis.
