Former Germany international footballer Gerald Asamoah has paid a courtesy visit to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the revered King of the Ashanti Kingdom. The meeting, which took place in Kumasi, comes as Asamoah, who was recently honored with the Federal Cross Merit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, continues his efforts to bridge the gap between Ghana and Germany.
Asamoah, who is celebrated for his role in fostering strong ties between the two nations, has been in Ghana to further his humanitarian work. A key aspect of his mission is his ongoing commitment to providing life-saving heart surgeries to children in Ghana through the Gerald Asamoah Foundation. Each year, Asamoah funds a program that brings German surgeons to Ghana to treat young children with heart defects—a cause close to his heart.
During the visit, Asamoah shared his plans to extend the reach of the heart surgery program from Accra to Kumasi, where he will fund the travel and accommodation of doctors to the Kumfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. This expansion aims to bring crucial medical care to children in the Ashanti region, providing them with access to treatment that could otherwise be out of reach.
The visit was warmly received by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who encouraged the former Schalke star to continue his noble work. “You are doing great things for our people,” the King is reported to have said. “Your efforts are a testament to the power of unity and compassion across borders.”
